BIO
Son of Sea Urchin is the latest music project of Seattle singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Dan Foster.
For nearly two decades, Dan was the lead singer and main songwriter for Seattle alt-country band Johnson County, while also playing bass for bands as diverse as Firecrotch (fast, fiery punk) and The Plaid Perspective (dynamic and complex indie rock).
Off and on, he lived in Nashville, playing out frequently with his acoustic guitar and harmonica, honing his songwriting and solo performance skills.
During Covid lockdown, Dan turned his attention to home recording, blending various genres -- including country, blues, rock, EDM, shoe gaze, and folk -- to create the unique sounds behind Son of Sea Urchin.
Dan is a proud member of the Tseshaht First Nation in British Columbia, Canada. Son of Sea Urchin is the name of a character in a Tseshaht folk tale.

Bonus Facts
Dan spent his early years traveling up and down the West Coast with his migrant worker family and therefore likes to claim many towns as his "hometown."
Dan did his first recordings in an empty chicken silo when he was 11-years-old. Even then, he was writing his own material, including a song about an evil catfish and a song called Tattle Tale about his little sister.
The earliest available recording of an original Dan Foster song can be heard here: Acid Country, Anaujiram, 1992.
Dan's great-grandfather on his mother's side, Peter Kishkish, was recorded in 1949, narrating and singing Tseshaht folktales for an American linguist. He was one of several hereditary chiefs of the Tseshaht First Nation, as was Dan’s grandfather and his uncle.
Dan's great-grandfather on his father's side, Feliciano Dominguez, born in 1843, played flute with the Lobero Theatre orchestra in Santa Barbara, California.
When Dan first moved to Seattle in 1995, he lived in his car for 3 months, parking every night next to Seattle's famous Green Lake Park.
In the 90’s, Dan was a roadie / bouncer / stage-tech, working out of the West Seattle warehouse where Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, and the Screaming Trees practiced at the time.
Dan was tasked with disposing of the original giant devil’s head prop from the Spinal Tap movie (which had later been used by Alice in Chains and then left out in the elements on the warehouse roof). So Dan had the dubious honor of throwing it three stories into a waiting dumpster below.
